My Ideal Grey Cup Game

Looking at the standings in the CFL right now and trying to understand the possible implications down the road is an exercise like walking quickly through a dark room with no light. The West Division is tight right now, with only four points separating first from fourth with five games remaining. The top two seeds are still open to all four teams.
The quandry lies in the possible crossover. If the fourth place team in one division has a better regular season record than the third place team in the other division, then that fourth place team literally takes theĀ  third places team playoff seed. If the regular season were to end today, Edmonton would take the third East Division seed spot and play Hamilton in the East Division Semi Final.

West Division
GP W L T PTS F A HOME AWAY DIV
Calgary 13 8 5 0 16 387 304 5 – 2 – 0 3 – 3 – 0 4 – 2 – 0
Saskatchewan 13 7 6 0 14 369 350 3 – 3 – 0 4 – 3 – 0 3 – 4 – 0
BC 13 6 7 0 12 304 344 4 – 3 – 0 2 – 4 – 0 3 – 3 – 0
Edmonton 13 6 7 0 12 328 396 4 – 3 – 0 2 – 4 – 0 3 – 4 – 0
East Division
GP W L T PTS F A HOME AWAY DIV
y – Montreal 13 11 2 0 22 413 204 6 – 0 – 0 5 – 2 – 0 6 – 0 – 0
Hamilton 13 6 7 0 12 294 309 5 – 2 – 0 1 – 5 – 0 2 – 4 – 0
Winnipeg 13 5 8 0 10 256 343 3 – 3 – 0 2 – 5 – 0 2 – 4 – 0
Toronto 13 3 10 0 6 243 344 1 – 5 – 0 2 – 5 – 0 3 – 5 – 0

If this were to happen, and if Edmonton were to beat Hamilton and then Montreal, then Edmonton would advance to the Grey Cup game representing the East Division.
I have been, always will be, first and foremost a Calgarian. I really don’t want Edmonton to win the Grey Cup (the next best thing to Calgary winning is Edmonton losing) but what I would love to see is a Calgary/Edmonton Grey Cup game. Being that the game is being played in Calgary this year, that possible scenario must make every Albertan’s mouth water with anticipation. Personally, two of my favourite things could happen that day:

  1. Calgary could win the Grey Cup
  2. Edmonton could lose the Grey Cup!

There’s still a lot of football to play, so anything is possible yet. But right now that scenario is one that gives me happy thoughts.
